The Governor’s School for the Sciences at UT was one of the first two Governor’s Schools. It was established in 1985 to provide opportunities for outstanding rising junior and senior high students with unique opportunities to study in scientific fields. Originally a four-week program, the length was expanded to five weeks in 2005. Students are chosen from among approximately 750 applicants recommended by the faculty of their high schools. Student expenses for participation (room, board, tuition, materials) are paid by the state.
