NASA astronaut and US Navy Captain Dominic Gorie received the master of science in aviation systems from UTSI in 1990. Selected as an astronaut candidate in 1994, he reported to the Johnson Space Center in March 1995. He served as a pilot on STS-91 in 1998 and STS-99 in 2000. STS-91 Discovery (June 2–12, 1998) was the ninth and final Shuttle-Mir docking mission, concluding the joint US and Russian Phase I Program. STS-99 was an 11-day flight during which the international crew aboard Space Shuttle Endeavor worked dual shifts to support payload operations. The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission mapped more than 47 million miles of the earth’s land surface.
