First “Master Plan” for Physical Facilities

When the institution purchased the Hill in 1826, a building plan was prepared that called for a central college building and three dormitories. This plan may have been influenced by Thomas Jefferson’s 1810 letter describing an “academical village” and the building of such a village at the University of Virginia.
