Field Day

The first annual Field Day was held on April 12, 1889. The event included the high kick, wheelbarrow race, sack races, potato race, three-legged race, and tug-of-war, as well as more common track events. In 1898 Field Day was combined with University Day, and a day’s holiday contained them both. In the morning, talks about the history of the university were given, and the usual Field Day activities were held in the afternoon. From 1900 to 1907, Field Day and University Day were separate occasions.
