Ferris Hall, designed by the Barber and McMurry firm, was built as an engineering building in 1930 at a cost of $225,000. The building has 55,760 square feet. It was dedicated and named for Charles E. Ferris (who became the first dean when engineering was designated as a separate college) at homecoming activities on October 24, 1936. Dean Ferris retired in 1940 at the age of 76. The 1888 president’s residence was razed for construction of Ferris Hall.
