From 1898, when Angie Warren Perkins was appointed part-time dean of women, until April 1970, UT had a dean of women (dean of the Women’s Department 1900–1905) who was responsible for regulations, enforcement of them, and support of women on the campus. The last dean of women, Jane E. McCormick, dean since 1966, resigned in April 1970. The two assistant deans became part of the Dean of Students organization, and the title dean of women was retired. 1908–1909: Mary Louise Tuttle, associate professor of home economics

1915–1922: Caroline Carpenter, assistant professor of modern language
1922–1951: Harriet Greve (first full-time appointment)
1951–1957: Gladys Beach
1957–1966: Margaret Cuninggim
1966–1970: Jane McCormick
