Judy Constantine began working in UT’s Continuing Education Department in 1950 and worked there for 42 years. She retired in 1992. During that time, she was a constant volunteer helping UT athletes in all sports, serving as one former athlete put it, as “den mother” of the athletes.
In 1952 she agreed to work as a volunteer to help rejuvenate the Lettermen’s T-Club. (The T-Club is composed of all university athletes—male and female—who earned a letter in a sanctioned, organized sport while at UT.) Three years later, she had been largely responsible for building the organization to sixteen hundred members, and she subsequently became the executive director of the T-Club. She was the first woman to be made an honorary letterman. Gus Manning, associate director of athletic event management, said that Constantine earned her athletic letter by helping student athletes and by helping the Athletic Department with fundraisers and clinic registrations as part of her work with the Division of Continuing Education.
She helped to raise the money for the Letterman’s Wall, and the T-Club Board of Directors honored her dedication by engraving her name on one of the benches adjacent to the Wall of Fame.
