In 1989 CAFÉ accounts were instituted to give students access to the university’s mainframe computer. CAFÉ users had net and e-mail access, as well as listserv access and access to UTCC’s archives of microcomputer software. According to Bruce Delaney, assistant director of the Computing Center for User Services at the time, use of e-mail by some faculty members dates back to 1975.
