In 2002 in an effort to streamline curricula and administrative costs, most functions of the College of Education and the College of Human Ecology were combined to form the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. The Counseling Psychology Program, which was accredited by the American Psychological Association, moved from the College of Education to the College of Arts and Sciences’ Psychology Department where there were also programs accredited by APA. The Human Resources Development Department of the College of Human Ecology moved to the College of Business, three textiles faculty moved to engineering, and the Department of Human Services was phased out, with its tenured faculty joining another department in the college. Dr. John Koontz, biochemistry professor and director of the Division of Biology, was named interim dean of the merged college.
