The Chancellor’s Professors program, the highest permanent academic honor for faculty, was begun in 2008. Chancellor’s Professors are appointed based on the nomination of a dean, screening by current Chancellor’s Professors, and recommendation of the provost. The honor comes with a one-time research stipend of $20,000.
The charter eight Chancellor’s Professors were Joy T. DeSensi, professor of kinesiology, recreation and sports studies and associate dean of the Graduate School; Charles Glisson, professor of social work; Sally Horn, professor of geography; Harry “Hap” McSween, distinguished professor of earth and planetary sciences; John T. “Tom” Mentzer, professor of marketing and logistics; George Pharr, professor of materials science and engineering; and Carol Tenopir, professor of information sciences.
