In 1942 the War Production Board (WPB) identified a need for typewriters for use in military and war-related entities and placed a call upon businesses, industries, and individuals to turn in typewriters to the WPB. UT met the full quota established for it. Some departments turned in their only typewriter, making “share the typewriter” arrangements with other departments. The Publications Council turned in four of nine machines; the Athletics Association, two of six; and the Agricultural Extension Service, one-fourth of their machines.
